I have 4 red gourami in my tank and lately they've become very lethargic. They will swim around occasionally but most of the time they'll just rest near the bottom of the tank.
One of them has gone very pale and occasionally makes mad, crazy dashes around the tank.
From what i can see they are still eating ok and havent got any problems swimming or staying upright.

I did test the water, the results are:
PH: 7.4
Ammonia, 0
nitrite 0
nitrate 0

The tank is planted so nitrates have always low. What's strange is it's only affecting my gourami, all the other fish are swimming around fine, just like normal. One of the gourami does seem better than the others and swims around as normal, it's the other 3 that are staying near the bottom.

There's never been any aggression between them all. I've had one pair for over a year, the others for around 4-5 months.

Anyone have any ideas? Are they just getting old? Or is there some problem affecting them? I read the pinned topic and said they are prone to infections. Mine were bright red when i got them and have since lost their colour.

EDIT: Just noticed this morning one of them has a cloudy eye.

Don't like the sound of them staying near the bottom, going pale is a sign of stress.
Gouramis are prone to bacterial infections.
Just want to check with the darting about that they are not flicking and rubbing.
Can you issolate the sick fish.

Gone pale, darting around, and cloudy eye is pointing toward parasites abit.
Any laboured breathing or flicking and rubbing on objects.

Should i try treating with an anti bacterial?
They are not flicking or rubbing. I havent seen any of them dart around today. it's just once or twice it's done that.

Unfortunately i dont have a spare tank to isolate them all. There's just platties and black neons in the tank with them.

One of them is having slow breathing, but no flicking.
Internal paracites?
How would they all be affected though, and just the gourami?

Thanks for your help :good:

Try a bacterial med increase areation, keep an eye on the one that slow breathing dosn't sound in good shape.

Some fish are more prone to parasites some more to bacterial infections.

Which bacteria should i use? I have anti internal bacteria (for dropsy, open sores, swollen eyes etc) or anti fungus & bacteria (for fungus, finrot and mouthrot).?

Thanks

The interpet anti internal bacteria med not bad med if you catch things early, good luck.

Just to update, all 4 gourami's are still alive and i've just done a water change and added the 2nd dose of medicene. 3 of them seem ok and are swimming around, however the other still remains really pale and has a cloudy eye. :(

Carry on with the med, the one that still ill might not make it bless him, but see how it goes.
Good luck.
