sick pleco

my pleco has started to just float at the top of the tank he is breathing fine and every now and then he swims to the bottom then just floats up again any ideads on what may be wrong with him

Can you please post your ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH, tank size, and tank mates?

i dont know the water readings at the mo i just brought the tank today with the pleco and 6 small guppy fry the water is the same that the other people had in it as i thought it best to keep it so brought the water in buckets how long do pleco normally live

Alright, how big is the tank? How did you handle the filter when you bougth the tank? Did you clean it with tap water befroe plugging it in? Did you need to add any more water? If so, did you use dechlorinator?

the tank is 3 and a half feet long the filter is built into the tank i rinsed the sponge in a small amount of water from the tank and i havent added anymore water just the water that was in there
