Hi,
I'm new here, but I need some help with figuring out what's wrong with my sons Platy. It lives in a 1 gallon tank. We have had it for about a month and it has been healthy. We changed the water today and about an hour later I looked at it, and it had some white fuzzy stuff on its tail fin area. It is just lying on the bottom of the tank now. It seems to not be able to swim now. It's alive but barely. I don't know how long it will survive, but I do wish to save it and know more about what's wrong, if anyone can help me. Thank you.

it could be a few things, ich or tail rot.
please read this website :)
also what are the water stats, and what type of filtration and heater etc.. i'm sure others will want to know this as well :)

I know nothing about the water stats. It has no heater or special things to it. We used spring water from the grocery store to change the water in the little gallon tank/bowl every 2 weeks.
He/it is dead now anyway. Took too long to find out anything to save it. Thanks, though.

do you have a pic?

Please see other reply, and here is another picture of it now.

it looks like his tail fin (i may be wrong) was being eaten away, which means fin rot but he does have white bloches on him. is that his natural colouration.
im sorry for your loss :rip: :byebye:
but i hope it wont put you off fish keeping.

Please dont purchase any more fish until you have read up about tropical fish a little more

Well, it will be a while before we do get more fish, if at all. I would like to get a real aquarium. That's quite an investment, though, so we may just wait until to child is old enough to pitch in, too.
Thank you very much!

you need a heater
you need to make sure the water is properly tested
you should be using tap-water with some water conditioner to remove chlorine NOT bottled water!
yes i suggest reading up a little but on tripical fish, particular the type of fish you had.
he probably died cus of the water conditions. good luck!
