i have 4 platy's (1 male and 3 females) in my tank and have realised that one of my females is sitting at the bottom of the tank hiding. she does eat but probably not as much as the other fish because she has to swim out of her hiding place.
i did a water test and these are the readings...

nitrite 25mg
nitrate 0mg
GH 16 d
KH 10 d
PH 7.2

the platy has no visible disease but is a bit thinner than the other 3 platy's.

look forward to replies

You have a nitrite reading.
How long has the tank been set up?
How many fish and which type.
Just want to make sure you havent got your nitrites mixed up with nitrates.

-the tank has been set up for almost a year

-i have 4 platy's, 5 zebra danio's, 2 leapord danio's and 2 BN catfish

it is nitrite because the label on the side reads NO3. for some reason the nitrite level always stays some where in that area. i added some distilled water a few weeks ago to reduce it because it was really high. it went down and then has stayed in that area since.

just fed my fish a little while ago. the platy came out and at some of the flakes i gave them and then she went to the bottom to eat some of the algea wafer i gave to my BN's. she started to eat them but then swam away to hide then it got a bit hectic.

No3 is nitrate not nitrite.
How many gallons is the tank?

Sitting on the bottom can be bacterial infections.
Signs of bacterial infection are being pale or darker in colour, being listless, and lethagic and not eating.
Internal parasite signs are.
Being thin or bloated.
Enlarged anus or red inflamed anus.
Worms prutruding from the anus.
long stringy white poo.

it is a 40 litre tank so it is a bit overstcked. she is quite fin but i cannot tell if she is paler becaues she is white.

Yes it is overstocled.
No2 nitrite reading should be 0, fish will die as bad water quality takes it toll on them.
I would rehome some of the fish, or buy a bigger filter to cope with the load of fish in the tank.

Danio's are active fish so need tanks of 20 gallons.

Immediate water change and increase aeration in the tank.
