ok for afew day's now 1 of my plattys (male) has been breathing really fast. non of the other fish in the tank are acting out of the normal. also his top fin's shredded a little... is there anything i can do? (iv been doing waterchanges) he has been eating. but hes not acting himself

thanks i'll turn it down a little and theres no white spots on him

What temperature have you got it set to at the moment?

What else is in the tank?

What do you think has caused the fish's fin to be shredded? Are you able to post a picture of it?

What are your water stats (pH, NH3, NO2, NO3)?

I feel that the shredded fin is more likely to be contributing to the fast breathing than water temperature.

the tank has 8 neon tetra 1 female betta (it did have 2 one recently died, LFS said 2 females were ok together although i did see some aggression between them (the one left is the less aggressive one one ) 10 amano shrimp, 4 otocinclus and another female platty. got my water checked today test said 0 ammonia and 0 nitrates (just out of intrest which is which? i know NH3 is ammonia but what way arround are the other 2? ... ph (done with testing trips is at about 7 (although there old and might not be right)

i'll try to get a pic up

Hes not swollen in any way is he? If you have lowered the temp a little this should help him out.

nope no swelling i dont know what wrong with him hes gasping and then torn fins ... maybe hes just old? ... the other ones not acting wierd

cant find any batteries for my camera so no pic until my mum go's shopping :(

Tried removing him to another tank? Maybe give him his own space and if you have melafix id try some of that, will help his fins out for sure.

i dont have any melafix but i could move him into my 20L but i think he might be better off in the bigger tank

he's not improving :( he's been like it for 2 weeks his fin's looked like they got better until tonight when i noticed there shredded
i might try to get a heater and set up a hospital tank.

i had my water tested and 0 on both nitrates and ammonia

heres a vid of him near the surface http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ImEjgHD3zM
