Sick or old betta?

Hello,
Unfortunately my betta, Dobby isn’t not doing to well and has been gradually getting worse and worse. Dobby is a Halfmoon dumbo but his beautiful fins are almost nonexistent and he finds it difficult to swim. He kinda looks like a zombie. Yesterday he even regurgitated his food.

I can’t quite put my finger on what’s going on and the only conclusion I can come to is that he’s just old. My last betta I had for 3+ years and he wasn’t doing this badly before he passed. I’ve had Dobby since July 2021 so shouldn’t be that old.

My tank is a 22L and the only other inhabitants are a few red ramshorn snails.
The temperature is 24°C.
I test the water once a week and do a 50% water change every second.

What are you feeding him and how often do you feed him?

Has he been biting his fins or have they simply eroded away over time?

You could try doing a big water change and gravel cleaning the substrate every day for a week. Add some salt too (1 heaped tablespoon per 20 litres of water, for 2 weeks). Vary his diet and add lots of live or frozen foods.

He gets fed a small portion twice a day (once in the morning, once in the evening).
He has live and frozen brine shrimp, frozen blood worms, 2 different types of pallets and some flakes which I alternate.

His fins eroded over time.

I did a full water change yesterday and gave all the gravel, rocks and plants a clean.
I'll try water changes every day and add some salt too.
