we have a freswater moray eel in a ten gallon tank with ghost shrimp (2) and a minnow he has just recently taken a dive out of his tank and on to the floor. Since the fall he has developed a red bump that looks like a blood blister on his fin and it has a white furry substance surrounding it. Can someone please help I have posted in the oddball institute but have had no response....... :-(

When a fish gets injured from a fall or being nipped by another fish the wound is left open to infection. It sounds like the red thing is a cut of some sort and the white furry stuff is a fungus. I would try treating with a fungus medication. You can get one at LFS. Hopefully if the fungus clears up then the red thing will heal. I would remove the ghost shrimp before treating with any meds, they usually don't survive the medication. I hope that helped a bit and the some of our experts will ring in also. Good luck.

Hi I would try melafix first its quite a gentle treatment, one other thing is he in a brackish setup because I'am almost certain that there isn't actually a strictly freshwater moray eel and that they benefit from some salt. You will need to do some checking on this for yourself. Hope he gets better soon.
