I have been treating a young black molly in a hospital tank for over 8 weeks now, possibly 10 - its all become a blur -_- . Originally for columnaris and fin rot. Her fins have grown back beautifully and the gray patches have all disappeared. But....

there's always a but. I have been keeping a little salt in the water and doing a good water change after the treatments but every time I leave the tank unmedicated for a couple of days, small gray/white spots appear. I can't get rid of them. I started to treat for ich (have done good water change and used carbon, so as not to mix meds), but I am starting to despair of ever getting her back in the main tank. I am stocking a new tank and could do with this small tank as a quarantine tank, so I've held off stocking the big one for now. :/

Perverse wee fishy has always been as bright as a button and gobbling her food all this time.

Any advice guys? I am going demented

Just be patient and keep up with treatment. Maybe try something different. There's nothing else you can do.

Thanks for the reply Sylvia - I was starting to worry about over medicating etc and the molly appears fine behaviour wise. I just can't get her back to all black scales.

I'll keep trying - thank you

Have you checked your water quality (ammonia, nitrate, nitrite)? The most common cause of illness in fish is poor water quailty. I'd check to see if that might be the issue. :)

I checked the water parameters and they are ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 5. I do make sure I test the water regularly and always change the water every week after a treatment. Also don't mix the chemicals either.

After a treatment for ich this week, she is looking almost clear - hooray!! I will leave it for a few days and see if anything comes back like the last time.
