Hello....

I currently maintain an aquarium with Kissing Gouramis, Threadfin Rainbows, Algae Eaters, platies, a little bumblebee....and black mollies!

My mollies keep having babies, and I love it! They're so cute! (sorry for being girlie). Except now, the adult mollies are looking a little unwell and I desperately need some advice to save them!

They have what looks like white little puffs all over them, and some with cloudy eyes. I've tried using white spot treatment, but it's been days now and they still look no better. I've also tried seperating the males from the females for a while (as I've read that the males can hassle the females too much and stress them out, which may cause the speckles). That also hasn't worked. I've also read that mollies can actually like brackish water, and a little aquarium salt wouldn't go amiss. This is the only thing I haven't tried as a) I don't have any! and B) I have other fish in the tank that may not appreciate the salt very much.

Please help...I'd hate for them to die :(

Any advice would be very appreciated :)

It sounds like your mollies have fungus. if it looks like cotton then it's fungus. White spots would look like the fish has salt or sugar sprinkled on it. Fungus is caused by poor water conditons. Mollies do need salt in their water as does the bumblebee goby. Do the mollies have fungus around their mouths or on their body? Also what size is the tank and how many fish are in it?

I think the tank is 125 litres...and there are about 26 fish in there (most of them small), and some baby mollies.

There are little white bits around their mouths, on their bodies and on their eyes. It's only the mollies that have it though - the other fish are fine. That is what's confusing, and what made me wonder if its stress caused by the randy male mollies!

I'll do a water change and try a fungal medication instead of the white spot one then - just in case it is this cotton wool thingy! (sorry, I'm no expert at all!).

Hopefully this will work, and not kill all my fish :(

Many thanks for the advice.

Susan
