My Male sailfin mollie has not been himself recently although i am not sure what is wrong with him, he is still eating but is always in a vertical position and unbalanced, hes becoming quite weak looking and doesnt have much energy to swim around anymore, hes always bobbing from side to side in the tank. I was thinking it was some sort of internal bactrial infection but wanted some advice before I administer treatment. Also none of the other fish have any signs of illness in the tank.

Any Ideas? Please!

Does he look bloated at all?
What size tank is he in?
Have you had the cycled tank?

The tank is a 40g, he isnt bloated a lot smaller than he was before. The tank was fishless cycled before adding fish that was 4 months ago. Thanks for your reply :)

Have you seen him go to the potty lately? What does his poo look like??

Does he seem like he has any control of his swimming? Has he still been eating. What are your current water stats?
Have you used any chemicals in the tank lately?
Has anything new been added to the tank?
Have you sprayed any chemicals or lite any candles around the surrounding area?

It seems like there is certainly something wrong internally.

Thanks Fishkies for your reply again :) He does seem like he can move himself just not very co-ordinated, he hangs mid water level then moves off again like normal for a while. He is still eating well, The water was tested today and everything seemed fine apart from a low pH reading which i have turned up aeration. I havent been spraying any chemicals near the tank or using candles, the only chemical I have added recently has been filter aid but he was like this before that. I have internal bacteria meds here, just getting worried now as it seems to be infectious.

Thanks

I'm so glad I came to this page! I thought that I had done something very wrong but we seem to hae the same problem. My Mollie started behaving live this yesterday and I haven't seen him go to the loo will keep an eye out for this. If you find the answer to the problem please let me know.

I think it more likely is a internal infection, I am going to add some anti internal bactria tonight and see how we go. At least they are still eating.

I am currently treating with Protozin, but after the course is done I will treat with interpet anti internal bactria. It seems infectious as my other female mollie is doing it now too, I wasnt sure if swim bladder was infectious, also he spends a lot of time at the surface in this vertical position....
