I have a male black molly. I fed the tank, and I saw that he had a small patch of white on his body. Not near his gills, a little farther back. Then, I saw that his eyes were really glassy and foggy. It was like someone spilled milk in them. The entire thing was just gray. Both eyes were like this. Does anyone know what this is and how to fix it? Thank you!

Do you have any pictures or can you get some? Is your tank cycled? whats the situation? tank mates & so on :good:

Could be whitespot? but dont know really just guessing :)

hope he gets him self back on his feet or fins?

I will try to get some tomorrow. The tank has been cycled for 3 months or so now. He's in a 5 gallon tank with 2 platies and a guppy. I recently added a new decoration. Could that cause his patch and cloudy eyes? He also doesn't seem to see where he's going. He kinda just flops around. I don't think it's white spot because it's more patchy and is only on one area of the body. Thanks me to!

Hi - I think your molly may be suffering from a bacterial disease. The white patches sound like body rot and that is often coupled with eye problems (whitish film over the eye) and sometimes the eye begins to protude or looks water-filled (pop eye). I would treat with a good anti-bac medication (I use Myxazin). Needs to be done soon as you can otherwise chances are he won't survive. Does he have heavy/increased breathing?

Also, how often do you do your water changes? And what are your water stats at the moment?

It's worthwhile doing a water change before you begin medicating and increase the aeration in your tank if you can.

Yes, that describes what he looks like! Also, will melafix work for that and can i medicate the whole tank. I add water when it gets low, and usually around every week or so... Probably less (i know, bad habit.)

Not sure about the eyes, but the white patch, is it like he was bleached there? Also has it gotten any bigger? I'm not an expert but I recently lost a guppy that had the same white patch and it turned out to be a server case of columnaris. If it's that most likly I'd get Maracyn and treat the whole tank because it is contagious to other fish. In fact if you have other tanks, and have used the net for the tank your molly is in soak it in clorax for a while.. otherwise it will spread to your other tanks.

Hope you caught it soon enough!

It's more like what it looks like when you scratch your skin and it turns white, as if he scratched his scales and they turned white.

Hey guys I went in today to put the molly in a hospital tank, but it had died :( Thanks for all your help, guys!! I should've gotten to him quicker.

Oh dear, sorry to hear that about your molly.

Going back to the water changes where you mention you "add water when it gets low" - you need to be physically removing a certain percentage of water from the tank every week or two and replacing it with fresh water that has had dechlorinator added to it (e.g. Aquasafe). It doesn't do much good just "topping up" existing water levels, unfortunately. As a guide you should aim to change a third of the tank water each week/fortnight depending on the size of your tank and how many fish, size of fish etc you have in there.

If you keep your aquarium water pristine there will be less fish disease in your tank.

Just thought I'd mention it so that you can prevent the same thing happening to any other fish you have.
