I think its something fungal.. any ideas?

Could be fungal, could be columnaris. Could also be a scale injury if the pair likes to scuffle now & then.

Yeah, I was also thinking it may have been that, or a rubber nose pleco gone evil on me.

If its just fleshy, then he prolly scuffled like tolak said, but if not, id bank it on columnaris, which is highly contagious and highly lethal.

Please post water stats in ammonia, nitrite,nitrate, and ph, how many gallons, plus full fish stock of tank.
It look fluffy in the picture you could be dealing with this.
