Hi, so after weeks and weeks of recycling my filter and sorting out my tank upgrade I finally went to my LSF and brought home my first lot of fish, I came back with 11 Rummy Nose Tetras, 2 Banjo Catfish and 2 Keyhole Cichlids. So far everything's gone well and was looking to get a few more fish next week, however I've noticed one of my Keyholes isn't in great condition.

Compared to the other it's dorsal fin looks clamped and after getting a good look at it today I've also seen one of it's pectoral fins is looking pretty ragged. Behaviour-wise it's fine, not having trouble swimming, eating well and generally active. Just wondering if anyone has had any similar situations and if there's any need to treat it immediately or any chance of waiting it out and seeing if it improves as I'm lacking in a hospital tank set up at the moment and would like to avoid medicating my whole tank so soon after starting it up.

Thanks in advance

I would give it a few days and see if it improves.

I assume you've tested your water and that's all ok?

Thanks for the quick reply!

I've literally just done it, Ammonia - 0, Nitrite - 0 and Nitrate - Between 20-50 on my test but a lot closer to 20. The Rummy's are colouring up pretty nicely so that's always a good indication of water quality.

I'll give it a few days keep an eye on it, if it doesn't improve what's the best way to go about it?

Well if it doesn't improve, maybe some actual symptoms might start showing, then we can work out what you should treat it for! It's going to be very difficult at the moment, with no clear symptoms to go on

At least you don't have to worry about your water, so that's good!.
