Ok, I have a ten gallon aquarium with two female bettas, 3 Harlequin Rasboras and 1 algae eater. Today when I went to feed my fish, I noticed one of my bettas was floating near the top (Fiona). Fiona had been having problems with my algae eater lately. The algae eater would attack her when she got too close, and rip her fins. This time I think he went to far- on the side of her mouth is a piece of her skin(?) hanging down, and her face is all red. Also her mouth looks kind of funny (almost like she got punched..). I put in betta fix, but I don't know what else to do.
I have a spare two gallon tank, and I was wondering if I should put her in that until she gets better. The other problem is the algae eater. Should I remove him from the tank? Also, another option for the betta-I could put her in one of those things they make for male bettas that hang on the side of the tank. That way she would be seperated from the others, but still get the heat and clean water from the tank.
What do you think I should do?

Thanks so much!

I'm guessing it's a chinese algae eater. Get it out of your tank right away!! They will kill your fish-they won't wait until they're dead or dying-they will initiate it. There's a thread in the chit chat forum (I think that's where it is) called fish killers, beware or something similar. It's all about chinese algae eaters killing fish.

I don't know about your betta though. Some of the experts here should be able to help with that.

eta: I don't mean to be mean but if you knew the algae eater was ripping fins why did you ever leave it in there? If I had one of my fish hurting my other fish I would get it out right away. :dunno:
