Hi

I have a 200 litre tropical tank. We have gold severums, bristle nose catfish, salmon catfish and 4 female hoplo catfish. We have had the tank for over 5 years and most of the fish in the tank now have been in it in excess of 3 years. Very healthy, no problems, havent lost any fish, or added any new ones.

I have a Hoplo that has a red bulge protruding from her bottom. Her belly was a little swollen prior to this. I just got up one morning, turned on the light and there it was. Its been there for two days now. She is eating and swimming around, although seems to be very buoyant and having trouble staying at the bottom of the tank. The swelling in her belly has gone down.

I have the water tested very regularly and it is always in check chemically.

Any suggestions would be really appreciated.

Thankyou.

Cathy.

sorry couldnt help :good:

Sounds horrible!

Do you think that she might be constipated? Firstly try feeding de-shelled peas as that might help, If that doesn't work get hold of some Epsom salts and Using tank water in an old ice cream tub or similar, give him a 15 minute bath with a tablespoon of salts added per gallon in whatever tub you're using.

It might not fix it, but it won't hurt.
