Just an update... I did a water test to see how everything was looking...
Ph=8.0
Ammonia= 0ppm
Nitrite= 0ppm
Nitrate= 0ppm

I am gonna have to buy a liquid test kit for the kH and gH as they were not part of my liquid test kit.

Also, the momma fish... the one I originally posted about finally pooped... and then went swimming crazily around the tank... lol! Guess I would feel the same way...

The male with the weird spot is still waiting patiently for some help ;)

Do a water change for the one guppy. It wouldn't hurt to isolate him for a bit.

Your numbers tell me your tank is not cycled. You should have some reading of nitrate, around 10-30 ppm. You don't need to worry about the kH and gH at this point, but worry about your other 3 levels and the male guppy with the spot.

I'm not familiar with Pimafix. It says it works in conjunction with Melafix, which is not a medication but an herb. Guess it couldn't hurt.

myxazin or Protozin by waterlife is a good med to keep handy...Melafix and Pimafix are just herbal.

Hm I will have to look in to getting some tomorrow. The tank is probably all messed up since I took most of the gravel out.
I do have a question about my filter... I use a medium whisper filter and it says to change it every 4 weeks... How often should I change it?
I tested the fry tank since I had the stuff out anyway and it was not bad. Nitrate wasn't 0 but I don't remember what it was... nothing alarming... just slightly above 0

The good bacteria is living in your filter media. Do not change it out every 4 weeks!! You don't need to change it until it literally starts to fall apart. When that happens, take a good chunk of what's left and put that with a new floss bag. Don't use charcoal unless you're done with a medication cycle to get rid of the rest of the medication. Otherwise don't use it at all. It's only good for a few days' use.

When you do your weekly water changes, gently rinse the filter media in the old tank water you just took out and then put it back in the filter. Changing it out often, like the manufacturer recommends, only makes them a lot of money and causes your fish a good deal of torment.

Thanks spouse thats what I was thinking... The bags come pre-asembled and I am not sure if there is carbon in them link to what I use

Yes, the carbon is already in these. You can get them unassembled, which is what I get.

The bags you have, you can dump out the carbon. Toss it in the bin or keep it in your refrigerator to take away bad smells.

So what goes in the bags then if there is no carbon in there?

So... I have been treating the fish with pimafix and it has not cleared up. I am on day 6 of the 7 day treatment. After talking with a LFS fish fanatic we decided to start Rid-Fungus here. I have only used it for 2 days now so not expecting a miracle.

However, in studying this fish I have kind of noticed that the lump may actually be on the inside of him. He is slightly opaque where the spot is and I coaxed him to the surface with my hand today to have a look and I couldn't tell much except that it seems to really be on the inside.

So what would cause a small growth on his backish/side-ish location? I am not really sure what to do with him at this point. He seems pretty happy (well he did before he was in my hand) and very active. I guess I will continue to watch him over the next few days and see what happens?

Also, I tested my water today and it was slightly alarming so I did some water changes.

10 gallon tank:
pH - 7.8
Ammonia - .15
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 2.0

Did a 10% water change to help with the slightly elevated ammonia and will check levels again tomorrow.

1 gallon fry tank:
pH- did not check
Ammonia - .20
Nitrite - .15
Nitrate - 7
Did a 50% water change and rinsed the fake plant out. Think I might have been over-feeding them so reducing food as well.

The lump sounds like some kind of parasite.

What kind of testing kit are you using to measure levels?

I am using API Freshwater master test kit :)

Ew how would i treat a parasite.... (SO GROSS!!!! I HAD MY HANDS ON HIM!)

FYI Nitrite was .15 not 015....

Well, unless you were sucking on him I think you're safe.
