I just bought 2 female guppies and 1 female balloon molly on friday, 3 days ago. One of the females I bought is hiding up in the plants or laying down on the ground, breathing very rapidly and moving her fins pretty rapidly, too. I was able to drop a few flakes of food over her and she ate 1 or two, but spit the rest out. I have no idea what's wrong with her :(

I have a ten gallon with these dimensions: 18" long, 12" high, 10.5" wide. I currently have 2 female balloon mollies, 2 female guppies, and 4 ghost shrimp. I have had the tank for over 3 and a half years now and I haven't had problems with chemicals since I was cycling it. The temperature is about 78 degrees ferenheit...I can't tell you any more than that right now because I am going to test my water in a little bit...but I will post them if need be as soon as I get the results.

Does anyone know what's wrong with her?

no...her gravid spot is way too small...if she was ever even pregnant in the first place i would say that she JUST had her last drop recently

well she's a pretty small fish and when i bought her she was in a seperate tank from the males...i have no idea if she has ever been pregnant :/

if this makes a difference, her tail was ripped a little when a bought her...not like it was nipped but like it got cought on something...but ive had fish that have had ripped tails before and it never changed their behavior :( she has been like this since I put her in my tank three days ago

thanks for replying by the way :)

Hmmm... ill look into it.

i was just looking for her and i actually found her swimming around a little, but my other guppy just chased her back down into the plant...could it be because she is being bullied by my other guppy? could it help if i got a third guppy and added it to the tank? because im going to the pet store in a few minutes

as far as i can see she seems to swim around just fine..when she actually does swim...but when she comes out into the open she is bullied by the other guppy...i think

ahh she is being harassed. You said you had no males? for every male guppy there needs to be 2-3 females visa-versa. try adding a male. But i must warn you they will breed if kept in good health conditions so prepare yourself! :hey:

hahahaha yea i have 2 females...and i was sorta waiting to get my 75 and maybe a 30 gallon as well until i get that far into breeding fish  ...which will be within the next few months :) but im thinkin i maybe should add one more guppy...aren't they better in groups of three or more? do you think another female would be okay? If i get another female i want to get a pregnant one though :) haha :) but i have to make sure thats okay with my mom first :/ do you think that the harassing will go down if i add another guppy?

Yes, the harassing will go down or if anything stop. 3 females is ok just make sure you buy a male! the fish will, WILL get pregnant.

i have a breeding net already :) yay :) and i don't think ill keep the female in a breeding net...i think ill just let nature take her course and save a few fry if possible...i don't think im ready to buy a male YET because my tank is too small right now to get that deep into breeding  :( but if my mom will let me i do want to buy a pregnant female :)
