Hi sorry i am completely new to this only having the aquarium for a few weeks. We have a fantail guppy that started swimming vertically a few days ago (head towards the surface). Just now he has started swimming upside-down and all over the place, resting on his side. Does anybody have any idea what's wrong?
The tank temp is normal (23C) and have been fed only twice a day.
Also, we have a water pump in the aquarium but is very noisy and creating a bit too much air flow in the tank. Weve just turned it off for a while and the fish seem hugely happier. What's your recomendation for leaving the air pump on/off?

Thanks

Andy

I had the same problem with my red wag plattys. My problem turned out to be a low water Ph (5.5). Have you tested your water?

Haven't tested the Ph & wont be able to until tomorrow. Any ideas about the air pump?

Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph would be good, is sounds like swim bladder to me and once it has progressed it hard to cure, sorry, i would issolate the fish if you can.
What do you feed the fish, resting of the bottom to one side is a sign of a bacterial infection.

Hi AndyDc,
:* In reply to your sick guppy i'd warn you never to turn the pump off because they will not get enough oxygen. If the pump is too powerful and noisy simply turn it down a little because when we first got our tank the pump stopped working, the tank went green and some of our fish died. We had no clue it was off but soon fixed it. :good:
