Hiya, I have just noticed that my male guppy has had his tail chewed off!!! hes looking pretty ill and was wondering if it would be a good idea to put him in our breeding trap until he gets a bit recouperated or whether it might stress him out?

also our female guppy has bright red gills?! Is somethnig wrong, ive never noticed them being red before+wondered what might be the problem?

???? :fish:

to mention on the male guppy i had a female guppy like the a day or two after i bought her i kept her in the tank with the other guppies and now its about a couple weeks later shes grown back her tail and about to have babies i cant comment on your other guppy sorry :/

im not too sure which fish it was, i keep looking to see if i can find out but ive never seen any of them go near him.

I havnt done a water test(im very new tothis so will have to get a kit to test it asap) but if it is ammonia poisoning how do you get rid of it?

???? :fish:

Do an immediate water change add some salt to the tank if you have no scaless fish, get water tested fast, you could have finrot in the guppys tail, does it look raggy and bits missing.

Ok let us know what your result are when they are done. As Wilder said do a water change.

fin rot and amonia poisoning, realy does'nt need treatment, both are normaly due to bad conditions, and will go away once these conditions are sorted, there will be a reason forthe bad conditon, so we need to find out what these are.

so a couple of quetions.

How large is your tank??
How long has it been running??
and
What other fish are in the tank??

thanks

it does have bits missing but how can you tell the difference between fin rot and it being attacked?

I'll get a test as soon as i can, i dont think theres anywhere open around to get it done now.

What sort of fish would you class as scaleless (that might sounds like a stupid question but it looks like all of our fish have scales as far as i can see!)

Ive just noticed but we put the guppy in a breeding net overnight to protect him as thats when his tail usually looked like it was dissapearing and i just noticed that even though he was in there the top fin seems to have gone. Would you say that means its fin rot? i cant see how it would have gone otherwise because theres no other fish in there! Whats the best way to treat fin rot?

???? :fish:

Give him a salt bath, due to bad water quality, he might not make it if he has lost alot of his fin, guppys tails and fins always go in bad water quality, also does he have red gills.

Also what fish do you keep and size of tank.

he does seem a little bit red a around the gills but then hes quite a pinky/red colour anyway so its hard to tell.

Im really not too sure of how big my tank is, its hexagon so i really cant work out the volume but its about a metre ish high and a metre ish across (if you can imagine that :S )

Im just about to do a water change+just wana check about the salt before i put any in.

We have a male siamese fighter
neons,
a peppered cory and an albino cory
2 glass fish
2 harlequins
2 rummi nose tetras
3 mollies
a rainbow shark (think thats what its called)
2 shrimp
and a golden algae eater

???? :fish:

HI,

I was asking about this yesterday and was advised that its my Siamese fighting fish thats was eating my guppies tails. I've moved him out of the tank now to stop it from happening.

Betta will be the one, and the Harlquins.

you realy need to find out, how big your tank is cos it sounds way overstocked.

bout you need more Harlquins, glass fish and rummy noise's. They need to be in groups of 4+, but without knowing the size of your tank I can't realy advice getting more. I also beleave Rainbows get VERY large.

sorry I can't help you futher, but without your tank size, and water results, there not much I can do.
