Hi my name is Cathy, i was reading a few posts and stumbled across a topic where someones guppies were sick and you asked if the guppies had the following symptoms -

Behavioral Signs; anorexia/refusal to eat, lethargy, hiding behavior, "hanging", clamped fins, loss of appetite, general constitutional signs.

Because the persons reply was no they were different symptoms I didnt actually find out the cause, as some of my new fish are suffering these above mentioned signs. The last couple of batches of guppies from our lfs seem to have the above probs. I bought 6 fish 5 days ago and have culled 4 because they were looking poor. I found one female this morning dead in tank her body was almost in an s shape. Please help. We are trying to establish our tank in order to breed for our lfs. He helped build and set up tank...when we had small tank two females had drops...we had 29 fry...now since all the problems we have managed to save 15 they are now growing strong and the eldest ( Sexybabe) is nearly 1.5cms. Still we put babies in the big tank and slowely they were dissapearing so we put them back into maternity ward until they are safe...btw we have a guppy only tank..with 1 sucker fish and a couple of catfish on their way...too help maintain bottom...we have a couple of little snails...we did have a giant one but he died with treatment. I hope Im not confusing you with all this mixed info...

I purchased a F guppy about 3 weeks ago and it had the camallanus worm protruding from the anus, so i moved her to a tank of her own and then later culled her through freezing method. The remaing fish in the tank were also moved into another tank and treatment started with sterazin, most are looking well although one very pregnant fat female seems to never want to drop. The original tank was getting sick due to very poor water quality, so thats gone altogether & have since had a custom made tank built with gravel filters the works....all ph levels are perfect. Its so nice to start fresh...the only thing re-used was a piece of driftwood with a plant on it that we purchased from our local fs, it was completely cleaned under HOT HOT water and then rinsed with cold. All gravel in old tank was thrown away.

Basically we have decided not to purchase any more guppies until something is under control....I believe the suppliers are sending out sickies not only to our lfs but to others in surrounding areas. We went to another fish shop and their tank was worse than anything ive seen...they are a huge fish and pet store also...who have plenty tropical reef set ups, coral the works. Im in Australia...where would i find a private breeder? If you know that is....ok Im a chat a box and putting to much detail for you to answer.. so please help where you can. Its absolute Kaos!

Kindest regards, Cathy & Aidan (Newies) :good:
