I had a wee out break of ich which has been kept under control, it's not cleared up yet but now one of the guppies has a big red spot on his tail.

what is it?

Could you describe it in more detail i.e how big is it, wether it is in streaks or one big blotch, does it have any texture- is it fluffy looking, inflamed or lumpy etc? Can you also post nesarsary water stats too please :)

The spot is one big splodge on the end of his tail,

the water parameters are:

Amonia 0

nitrite 0

Nitrate 40

ph 7.5

red spots are usually bacterial in origin. do more water changes and add something to kill the bacteria.

is white spot fungal or bacterial?

would melafix do the job

white spot is a parasite and melafix will do diddly squat for bacterial infections, its only of use for helping to repair ripped fins. can you get a pic of it?

are these the new fish you got chish? if so didnt you quarantine?

The guppy in question is a fish that I have had for quite a while.

thats what confuzzled me.

I think i am going to stick him in the hospital tank for a while. he seems to be the only one that is affected.

i cant get any pics till the morns evening as my camera is away getting fixed and I have to pick it up the morns afternoon.

well, bacteria doesnt respond to salt but adding a teaspoon per gallon will help any healing. good luck with her.
