Hi everyone, im new on here and im pretty much at wits end. Ive kept fish for years, and after a brief break from the hobby i decided to set up a 55 gallon tropical fresh water tank. The tank has been running for two months now, and i have hd nothng but issues. Right now in my tank, i have a parrot cichlid, lrge kissing gouramai, and irredescent shark. Wensday, the gouramai developed ich.. I treated the tank, nd the ich seems to have gone away, but now her eyes appear cloudy, and shes not as active as usual. The irredescent shrk, is pale and looks like he may hve a fungas infection. The problem is, I've dumped so many medications into the water ( when first starting the tank I bought inexpensive fish to start cyle) they became sick, and I treated the tank with general cure, and only two survived. They are actually still in the tank, I forget to mention the minnows. Anyways.. The day after adding the ich medication and salt, the water got extremely cloudy. I think these medications are ruining my bio wheel. Should I stop tryin g medications and just let nature take it's course? Never in all the years keeping fish have I ever encountered illnesses like this! :( if someone could help please let me know!

P.s. My water perimeters were perfect a few days ago, I haven't tested since adding medication. Also the parrot cichlid is perfectly fine, swimming, eating, with no sign of any illness.

I would say that the first priority is to make sure that your water is safe for the fish and biological filter and clear to get rid of disolved particulate that could sustain undesirable bacteria, so I would start by daily water changes of at least 50% until the water clears up and tests negative for toxins. Then you can reassess the sickness situation and decide which disease is easiest treated or which fish can be saved

Well I set up a hospital tank. I kept the parrot in one minnow and the main tank and the others are in the hospital tank. I should have done this from the beginning, it's so much easier to watch them in the hospital tank, as well as a lot less costly to medicate... Wish me luck!

Some conditions require a whole tank treatment and ich is one of those, if you still had ich in your first tank at the time that you moved your fish into the hospital tank, you will now have ich in both tanks
