Hi I'm a total novice at fish keeping. I received my tank 23-11-06, it's a 60ltr tank with artificial plants and gravel ( all was washed b4 putting in tank). Water neutral, temp 24 decrees c.

After just over a week I started with 2 platy's and 2 dalmation mollies, all female.

I lost the first Platy in "fry" birth after a few days, the second developed a skin problem overnight lastfri, shop advised fungal, to remove and put down, that would cause no problem to tank or remaining fish.

Shop advised ok to put more fish in, bought 2 guppies (both male) and a pair of dwarf gourami's.

since placing in tank male seems very quiet and spends lot of time hidden, not very good at noticing food time so has not eaten since sunday. He is now vertical within the tree trunk, have checked he is breathing but  seems bizarre behaviour!

I would be grateful for any advice!!

Need to look at your stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
The shop shouldn't of let you get new fish when some are ill.
The skin problem was it fluffy on the fish and where about was it on the fish.

Hi, sorry don't have stats as shop testing water every few days for us, they just said it's neutral and fine.

The platy looked a bit fluffy one side over front half almost of her body, was lethargic Sat am. Great until then.

If it's any help we set water in tank up with Tetra aquasafe and adding neutrabalance weekly so not carried out any water change.

Dwarf no longer vertical thankfully,( was a good 20 mins though)

Take a sample of your water to the lfs and tell them to write the readings down for you.
Invest in some liquid test kits of your own.
Sounds like the fish had columnaris which a nasty strain can wipe a tank out in hours.
