During the past month, I have been going to the lfs and they had 4 sick discus. A bit of fin rot, and clouded eye. Nothing I thought was very hard to treat, but they seemed not to care about treating them.

I have been wanting discus for quite some time now and this just tore me up. After looking at them for a few weeks, I did the foolish thing and asked if I could get them for half price. They agreed if I bought the lot. I wasnt' crazy about one of them but I agreed anyway.

Once they were home I put them in a 10 gal I had set up with some guppies at the 82 degrees they needed. I imediatly started to treat them with a combination of antibiotics, parisite killers, and fungus clear. The first couple of days everyone was moping around the tank, hiding in corners and not eating. This had me in a fit.

Though I can't say I was happy about it the one fish I wasn't crazy about finnaly kicked the bucket on the 5th day. But eveyone else was starting to eat a little and moved around the tank more.

Now on the 7th day and a few more treatments. My little guys arn't looking sick. They come and beg for food when I am sitting here. All the spots of fungus are gone and the eyes have cleared up.

In a week I will add them to my main tank. It was set up for them months ago.

After looking back, I don't think it was such a great idea and would not even jokingly tell someone to buy sick fish to nurse. I am excited and they are so sexy!

With the cost of meds you probably didn't save too much money but you did rescue and cure three ill fish that wouldn't be around if you hadn't. The lfs should be told about your success and told that it dosen't show a very good level of care for the fish or the customer to not treat the obviously ill. If you have other options for fish shopping I'd take it elsewhere... :D
Nice job Fish Doctor!!!

I already had all but the parisite killer.so it wasn't much out of pocket beyond the fish.

The place is pretty good normally, but this did bother me aswell.

I would never buy a Discus in an LFS, even the ones i go to all the time cause i don't they have the time to do cleaning and frequent water changes that the Discus require. And the Discus they have look horrible.. I would buy from a breeder that's in your area or online....

 come to where i work, i clean their tank and change their water very often! Usually sneak in a water change while the manager isn't looking :shifty:

Hope they come around.
Discus can be very tough fish to care for. To start out with sick ones makes it that much harder.
