hi - i had this posted in beginners section, but am desperate for advice.......

cycling tank with 6 danios, they have been in about 9 days, all ok, except one, did 25% water change on sun, today when i came home he was floating in top of tank, still alive, noticed a red "lump" on his fin (front left) about flea size, he won't eat.

I tested water and got: -

ammonia: 1
nitrite : 5 - blimey, is this my nitrite spike!!!
nitrate : 10

just done another 20% change, and added Salt as a tonic and in the hope of helping with the redness, and he is already more active, literally within 10 mins!!!

what do you think? what about the red "lump" - I have Melafix and Primafix, should I add any?

in a panic :-(

Dave

just saw this post rule - oops....

ammonia: 1
nitrite: 5
nitrate: 10
kH: unknown
gH:unknown
tank temp: 24

Volume and Frequency of water changes:25% sunday - 20% just now

Chemical Additives or Media in your tank:salt

Tank inhabitants:5 other danios

Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration): none, but only had fish 9 days

Exposure to chemicals: melafix finished sunday (hence 25% change), as another danio had a white saddle, he is fine.

Digital photo (include if possible): not yet!

It's bacterial and the cycle took it toll on him, do you have a spare tank so you can issolate him, as he's going to need a bacterial med, as red bumps are bacterial.

Hi,

sorry to say, that by 21:00 he was dead. I don't have another tank I could have put him in

i'm continuing 10-15% changes daily until my nitrite are under control, they are down already from yesterdays change.

the other 5 seem to be doing very well indeed?

thanks

Dave
