I am writing to ask for any information that could help me in figuring out what my cory (Wibble) died of:( It was horrible and I took it in to my hands to end his life yesterday. I feel really awful but I hated seeing him in so much discomfort.

About three weeks ago Wibble started to bloat (which i'm aware points to dropsy?) I continued to treat the tank as I had been treating the tank previously as one of my other corys (Watson) bloated but died due to this bloating business. With Watson, though, it only took a couple of days before he passed away(
Because Wibble couldn't get any bigger he became to show blisters. They were soft to the touch like water blisters. Yesterday his breathing was getting worse and more blisters had started to show,so much so i could see some redness.

I'm wondering if anyone could tell me if they have experienced this before and if they could tell me anything about it and if there is anything i can do extra in teh future should i come across this again.

My nitrate, nitite & ammonia levels are at zero. My Ph is 7.6 - 7.8

I am so glad i found this website and people who share my love of fish.
Mary x

Bless them R.I.P.
Bacterial the blisters and redness.
What did you feed the corys, and how often do you maintain the tank.
What are your water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

I fed them catfish pellets and of course they would catch any of the flake food/tubifex i feed my other fish. I did water changes every week but have been lengthening this to fortnightly as the levels in the tank have been fine. All levels are at zero, the ph is 7.8 i think.

Do you think there could have been a way to save them?(

Thank you for responding. x

Is it freeze dried tubliex or frozen or live.
I would add a bacterial med, and tubilex food can be dogdy I will only feed freeze dried and then not often.

It's dry, i havent fed any of my fish live things as yet. I don't know if i could. Should i not feed Tubifex no more then? I will try and vary the diet a bit x

I use frozen foods, freeze dried tubilex is all that I will use.

OK so Al is still alive and kicking bless him. Perked up loads about five days after i put more corys in the tank:) It was a joy to watch them all swimming around playing together. Now, however, i notice the dreaded swollen appearance. This bloating occured a few days ago, its not major just minor at moment but i know what its like and i dont want it to get out of hand. I've given them all peas for dinnner tonight. I am hoping to death its just constipation but if anyone else could tell me what they would do in this situation that would be most helpful . He seems so happy right now and i want to keep him that way...

I wish you well with your Cories. I have combined my four all together and they are great to watch as a "family unit". I don't think many people really realize that Cories love to be with other Cories. They think, "Oh, I just need one to feed off the excess food, etc at the bottom of my tank." - I know I thought that, until I read they like to have families. The Cories have become one of my favorite fish just due to their socialization amongst themselves.

I hope that mine don't develop the problem your little guys have. I am going to keep an eye on it and see how things progress. I had all my Molly problems, so I am cheering your little guys on!

Thank you for your well wishes Nicholaa:)

I've read conflicting experiences, mine are a mix of quite a few and they seem to get on and play together. I know a lot of people say that the same type or corys get on better tho

xx

Do they have to be the same variety of cory or can you mix and match??
