I am very new to fish keeping and I need some help. I have an albino cory who looks sick. She (I think it's a girl) has a big bump right under her gills. I thought it might be a blote, but she's not floting. I read a bit about pregnancys in corys, and I don't think that's what it is. I do have a male (I think) albino corry. She apears to be eating fine. She is a little less acktive. I haven't knowtised any discoloration. Do any of you know what might be wrong?

Freshwater ten gallon
15 fancy tailled guppy fry
2 albino corycats
1 green corycat
1 gold mystery snail

Plants
Some hornswart
Plastic plants

P.S. Sorry for any misspellings, I am Dysleksic.

firstly your tank is alittle over stocked, corys like to be in groups of 4+
anyway do you mean a swolen gill cover (im dumbing it down because i dont know the proper name). and what are your water stats, what does the bump look like (is it red) and is it on both sides?
it might be a gill infection, are the gills red?, is there excess mucus. is she flicking about? are there any paracites around the gills? are the bumps hard? Are the gill covers sllightly blue? (i hade blue gill covers before but it went very fast and i never knew what it was, 3 years down the line and thats my only minnow left  )

heres a link the might help http://www.nationalfishpharm.com

hope it works out, shang hi

Water stats would be good in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
What c\olour is the lump is it hard or soft like filled with fluid.

My reedings are...
Nitrate-10
Nitrite-.1
Hardness-145ppm
Ph-8.0

I read that corys can servive inpretty high phs. The lump is quite big. it covers her whole chest aria (I don't know what that aria is catted in a fish) and there is only one. It is white, just like the rest of her body. It deosn't look like ther is anything wrong with her gills. It feel like there is flued in it.

You have nitrite reading how long has the tank been set up.
If a while it shows the filter not coping with the load of fish in the tank.
You will need a bacterial med for the lump.

I haven't had the tank very long, about two and a half months. I didn't know about tank cycling untill it was too late. I wish I had done more reasearch, but I can't change the past. I am trieing to find new homes for my some of my guppies. My hope is that I will find new homes for nine of them. I started treeting my cory with Maracyn-two today. I moved her into a hospital tank too. I hope all goes well, but she deosn't look to good. I think it's dropsy.

Are the scales sticking out, sorry its a cory won't be able to tell.
So its not a lump then just bloating.
Your tank should be cycled by now.
What filter are you using, how many gallons does it turn over an hour.
Do you use a gravel vac.

Yes I do have a gravel vac. I did a 50% water change today and that brought the nitrite level down to 0 (or very close to it). I have a topfin filte for a 20 gallon tank. It filters 100 gallons an houre. I'll cange the cartrage agian in a minute. I changed it about a week ago. Yes, her scales are stiking out. Sorry I called it a lump. I didn't know what else to call it.

Thats fine then need to rehome some of the livebearers.
Dropsy once scales stick out organ failure.
All there is to do is epson salt baths, bacterial med.

I droped off nine of my guppys today a the petstore. Now there are only six. How do you give a fish an ebsom salt bath?
