This is the 2nd time this happened to a female convict of mine in last 2 months, in different set up's

All Water Parameters tested weekly, ammonia and nitrite undetectable, nitrate between 40-50 mg/l, pH a stable 7.8 to 8.0

It's not the water, i have been keeping convicts and similar size cichlids for ages now, hardly any deaths or problems

diet hasnt changed, mixture of flakes, pellets, frozen foods (mysis, bloodworm, artemia, about once a week for each food)

SYMPTOMS on both occasions............

---fish starts to sit at bottom of tank a bit, comes up to feed and when not sitting on the bottom looks normal, no weight loss or anything on skin, just sits on bottom of tank, no "stringy poo".

---after a few days it becomes noticeable that when fish leaves floor of tank at feeding time, its having some "issues" with its swimming, nothing dramatic, just a bit "tail heavy" and it doesnt look natural at all, like its an effort to swim (hence i guess why it sits on the floor)

---hasnt happened to this one yet, but the other female convict about 2 months ago, eventually just developed more and more erratic swimming behaviour over the course of a few weeks, i eventually took it out and euthanised it

All the other fish are fine (parrots, kribensis, jade eye, Bristlenose), lots of breeding going on, fish are colourful and active)

THE ONLY THINK I CAN THINK OF, is i have only ever had x2 female convicts get ill, the one that died and this one AND THIS HAS ONLY HAPPENED SINCE I SEPERATED MALE CONVICTS FROM FEMALE CONVICTS..... is there a link, so the eggs build up in the female and then make her sick (sounds silly, but i cant think of any other link?)

i know this isn't any help now, but fishlette posted some good info on autopsies for fish, you could use this to determine whether your convicts are eggbound if your current girl doesn't make it.

i am not trying to be gruesome, and again, i'm sorry that this isn't any help now, but if this ends up being an ongoing problem, it might be worth a look for future knowledge.
i hope your girl gets better quickly.
