my betta Frank has had finrot along with my lyretail molly and dalmation molly for about a week now. caught it early on and have been treating. Has not become any worse. Going to go purchase additional medication and/or antibiotics today at my LFS. Just returned last night from four days in Toronto.

anyway, Frank is breathing normally, his fins are not clamped. Apart from his pectoral fins being a bit ragged from the finrot, he appears okay. The only thing is that he's very lethargic. A moment ago I found him in my conch shell hiding, which he typically never does. Actually, from where I'm sitting, I can see his head poking out a bit from it right now. When he journeys to the water surface, he stops moving for a bit and begins to roll onto his side. Before he rolls too far Frank starts moving again and goes somewhere else. He doesn't exactly appear afraid, since when I look in at my fish he swims right up in front of me as usual. not sure if this is swim bladder in its early stages? :/

just fed him, appetite is fabulous, nice and normal. enthusiastic.
hoping its constipation. will try shelled pea and such.
have a bunch of sites bookmarked- previous topics from here and such.
just looking for other ideas and suggestions. past experiences similar to this and the like.

It sounds like it's probably swim bladder cropping up.
That can be caused by constipation, like you said - try the pea and stop feeding him for a couple of days.

Other causes can be infections causing the internal organs to swell up and pressing on the swim bladder. Is his belly puffy at all?

his belly is a bit puffed up in the front...right behind his gills. know where I mean? :/ but the bump is very slight. hardly noticeable. should I simply separate him when I feed my fish or keep him separated? I can go out and get a breeding net, which is probably my best option...

raise your hand if you hate swim bladder disease.
...and ich
...and popeye
...and finrot
...and fungus
...and everything else that invades your tank.

Try the shelled peas as been mentioned, finrot could be a second infection.
