Sick Betta

Well this evening he is back to his normal self again flaring at me when I come by the tank and swimming around with his fins up. Looks like it was either the heater not being in the tank (however the heater hasn't really kicked on cause the temp has been close to 80 with the light on the tank on) or the shrimp stressing him out. Thanks to everyone who gave me input as Oscar appears to be back on his feet again.

Did the WC like 20 mins before posting those stats and the thread. Nitrates are 10. He's been in the tank for a month now without any issues until yesterday. There is no heater in the tank but from what I've read and researched about bettas they adapt to temp ranges from 68f to 84f. In fact most sources I've read about them say they don't even need a filter but I don't agree with that hence why I got the filter in the tank.

The stats were tanken before WC obviously. Did a test on water like 10 mins ago and Amm is back at 0 and nitrite still at 0 nitrate 10 PH 7.4

Actually in most cases they need a heater more then they do a filter. Bettas are labyrinth fish so they are fine to inhale air from the surface of the water. They don't mind filtered water but it isn't a necessity.

and depending on how big a water changes you probably had around 1 PPM of ammonia (if my math is right) which is a lot and probably what is causing his lethargicness...

Didn't read through the post but glad he seems better. Remember to keep up with water changes, 30% weekly minimum!
