hay every one. my gf got a betta the other day and he seems to be bloated and has a little bit of fluff on his jaw.... i assumed its fungus...... its white and cottony so i think i maybe right..... the water stats are fine and im sure the bloating will go down with a little starvation.... right??

also i though a salt bath would help with the fungus.... is it worth a try and if so.... what is the best way to do it..... i havent got a heater for him but the temperature isnt that cold... i have a room heater that i use.......
a quick reply will be much appreciated and i know ive posted in teh wrong forum but anyway.... at least ill be getting an answer from a pro.....
thanx alot,

Have you any Pimafix? That is a fungal medication you use with melafix. There is also Maracyn made by Mardel, make sure you look though, that you get Maracyn and not Maracyn-2 because Maracyn-2 is for parasites and Maracyn (amongst other things) is a fungal medication

And have you got an airstone? that might be useful as well to keep the areation in the tank. I have done salt baths on one of mine a couple years ago, and I know it helped him, but i can't remember the proper amount of salt/water, so hopefully someone tells you here

Good luck!!!

For the fungus the salt will help but don't overdose half a teaspoonful to around 5 litres I think should be OK, but what would be better is some melafix or maracyn tc.

As for the bloated, peas may help but if he has a intestinal problems then not sure what you can do, but the medication for the fungus might just help espec the maracyn.

what do you mean the temp isn't bad is the tank around 25c if it is lower it really would be better to try to raise it for a while to around 27c.

Good luck and hope he pulls through, by the way make sure he is isolated as fungus is infectiousl

sorry guys no photos. my camera died a few weeks ago and i havent got another.... its definatly fungus but i think i caught it early you can only just see it. as for salt.... he is in a 3 litre container with lowered water... so ill just throw in a table spoon of teh stuf and see wat happens..... yes i do have an air stone and i am using it at current so no worries there.... thanx for your help and i shall get some multi cure from teh aquarium tomorrow.... this stuff medicates several different diseases at once.... good stufff.....
thanx alot and i shall post back to see how i turnedd out....

Should be fine as long as there are no anti-caking agents....
:dunno:
Although if the bloating is the begginings of dropsy ie; the fish has more than one illness, then the use of sodium chloride could IMO make the fish worse/kill it, obviously depending on what has caused it....
