Sick betta

My new betta is very poorly and I don't know why. His fins have become ragged - like fin rot and he spends a lot of time sitting on the substrate. The water parameters are good, no ammonia, no nitrites and low levels of nitrate. I do regular water changes once a week. He has no other tank mates in his 10 gal tank, so he's not been bullied. I can't seem to find out why he's like this. I've added some fin rot medication to the water and tomorrow I'll do another water change and add some more. Has anyone any ideas as to what went wrong.

How old is the little fella?

I've had him a couple of months and according to the lfs - they had him for about 4 months. Most probably he's about a year old.

Just thought he might have been getting on in years. Its very hard to know what could be wrong especially if all water parameters are OK.

I've had mystery illnesses with no obvious cause as to why - which is very frustrating, but as someone said to me - sometimes it just happens. I know that doesn't help but it does seem to happen to most at some stage.

What meds you using. Personally I find Melafix great with fin rot. I know I've mentioned it before but it works for me - anyone would think I had shares in it lol

I've put some Interpet Fin Rot and Fungus medication in the tank, but my lfs doesn't stock melafix. I think I read somewhere that tea tree oil can be used but I'm not quite sure of the dilution ratio. I hope it helps, he's not eating, just sort of sitting there. Makes me feel so bad coz it's most probably something that I did without realising it.

my betta was the same he was fine then i noticed him just sitting on the bottom of the tank, he was like this a few days did'nt see him feed, did
water checks all fine, then saddley he died, there were no marks or signs of diesese, it was like he just gave up on life, so as lovely as they are i won't be buying another,

Spose the best thing to do is finish the current course of meds and hope for the best

Lucky's luck ran out I found him on the floor of his tank this morning I don't know what happened, one minute he was fine, then he just seemed to give up on life Could he have died from lonliness? I don't know, but I'm so sad about it. He was a right little charachter and I will miss him a lot

Sorry to hear about it In cases like this, there is just nothing you can do but try the medications, and watch
