Hey, today my betta is acting like hes having problems swiming, he just sort of leans on the glass or the wood. he stays at the bottem, and every once in awhile shoots up to the top for air, then drops back down and lays on the bottem. he looks like he might be breathing faster, but its hard to tell.

The tank water is good, my cycling has recently settled down, as in amonia is finaly at 0, and everything else is in normal ranges.

The only thing that looks a little odd in the tank is, on the wood there is green spots growing. I assumed this to be algee, but i have noticed it is only on the wood, not on the glass or filter part or anything else. I don't know if this is normal.

suggestions ideas? i really don't want to loose him, and i have absolutly no idea what sort of meds to buy or to try this 'table salt bath thing' i have read about.

hes in a ten gallon all alone.

thank you in advance!

:(

How did the betta behave before? How old is he? It could be that he's just starting to become docile. I've had many bettas that do what you've decribed and become inactive. It may also be that the betta just has nothing to do. If you add a few tetras such as neons or cardinals, he should become more active and will investigate them, he may even become an alpha male. But still, has he been eating OK(will happy bettas that's basically scarf down anything you put in the tank)? Do his feces look normal? Does he have any external cuts or sores? And one more thing, it's not table salt its rocksalt or aquarium salt never use iodated(table) salt in a fish tank. Good Luck :)

Uhh.... no..... Either he'll have his fins nipped to pices or kill the tetras.... Leave him on his own, he's a lucky boy. Whats the temperature, and does it have a filter? Inactivity can be linked to internal problems, especially bacteria that show few other symptoms.

Does the fish look bloated, what does it look like when the fish goes to the toilet, what do you feed the fish, it sounds like constipation or a slight swim bladder problems i would try some shelled peas and daphnia, as they can heavy breath with them, with being bloated.

hey, yes on filtration, and air bubbles. the temp was around 80. Unfortnaly he died about and hour after i posted this. I imagine he was older then i figuered. it was rather quick. fine one way, not so the next. hes in a better place now.

thank you all for your responce.

Sorry R.I.P.
