Hey All,

One of my Angels has red inflammation where it's pectoral fin joins to its body. All four Angels are staying low in the tank and aren't swimming to the front of the tank like they normally do. The Black Angels seem to have a white coating on their body but all are still eating. All my other fish seem unaffected.

Tank Parameters;

NH3: <0.01mg/L
NO2: <0.01mg/L
NO3: 4.3mg/L
pH: 6.8
Temp: 27C

Spoke to my LFS about this yesterday and he told me to put a product called 'Tri-Sulfa' by Aqua Master into the tank. This product contains Sulfadiazine, Sulfamerazine and Sulfadimidine. Anyone used this product?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Tank is the one in my Sig.

Thanks

Does the red inflammation look to be under the skin, is there any whiteness around it?

The white coating does it look fluffy or slimy, is it under the skin or on the skin.

Dont know that med, so cant advise on that.

Any chance of a picture?

Thanks for the reply. The redness is only where the fin joins to the body (on both sides), I guess you could say on the skin.

The white coating looks slimey.

Will try and get a picture in the morning.

Tri sulfa is a good drug, it's 3 different sulfa drugs with different rates of metabolism.

How often do you do water changes, how much, and what do you use to treat the water(dechlorinator)?

The sliminess indicates some sort of irritation, the trace of ammonia might cause this. I would medicate the ill fish in a separate tank, there is no reason to medicate well fish, this is one of the ways drug resistant bacteria strains are created.

Thanks Tolak.

I do 30% water changes every 10 days.

I dechlorinate with 'API Tap Water Conditioner'.

Have you ever seem an Angel that has this redness/imflammation around the pectoral fins?

The red inflamation is it bemeath the skin or on top.
Any signs of flicking and rubbing.

Ok thats fine then.
Parasites can cause inflamation.
The meds the right one.
Good Luck.

Just looked the med up is more of an external bacteria med then internal.
Look under septicemia.

Thanks for the that!

I put the Tri Sulfa in 2 days ago, do you recommend a water change before I medicate again tomorrow?

Best to follow med instructions.
Usually you do a water change before the next course.
What does it say about water changes during the med course.

No mention of a water change, just says to repeat the treatment after 3 days if necessary.

Follow the med instructions then.
Was the water readings done after you added the med or before.

Got to find out then why your ammonia and nitrite readings not 0.
Do you preform a gravel vac when you do a water change.
Do you over feed your fish.
How many gallons does your filter turn over and hour.
