Hey All,

Before I start with my problem I'll detail my tank parameters;

NH3: <0.01mg/L
NO2: <0.01mg/L
NO3: 4.3mg/L
pH: 6.8
Temp: 27C

To me everything seems normal with those parameters.

Now to my problem. One of my female angels hasn't been eating for the last 5 days. Things I have noticed are;

i) Her Breeding Tube (I think that is what you call it) has been down all this time and does seem a little red and inflamed.

ii) There is swelling around her stomach which seems to be getting increasing worse. Could this be Eggs or Bloating?

iii) Today I have noticed her eyes are bulging a little and there seems to be a white ring around each eye.

iv) She spends most of her time around the bottom of the tank but is swimming normally.

Another thing which I hope is a positive is that her fins are not clamped which is normally are sign that they are unwell.

I have found something on the net which talks about fish being 'eggbound' has anyone heard of this and could this be a problem that my fish is experiencing.

All other fish are eating and appear unaffected. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

Hey Again,

My fish died while I was at work today :sad:

I would still like to hear peoples opinions on this (especially from Tolak) so I know what to do if this happens again.

Cheers

Sorry to hear about your fish. It could have been a bacterial issue with the fish, causing bloating & the ovipositer to show, the bulging eyes as well as lack of eating point to an internal problem. For eggbound fish a few epsom salt baths daily will sometimes cause the fish to release the eggs. If this doesn't work a long term fast of 4 weeks will sometimes cause the eggs to be absorbed by the fish.

If I notice a fish being slow to eat I suspect internal protizoans, and mix a bit of metro in with the food.

Hey Tolak,

Thanks for the prompt reply. If it was Internal Protizoans what's the likelihood of other fish being affected? At this stage all the other a fish are fine. One thing that I did notice with my sick fish was that it looked like the pressure had become to much and its stomach burst open. Weird!

Also what's metro? Is there an equivalent down here in Australia?
