I have a sick 3 spotted blue gourmi, he looked bloated for the past month so I thought I was over feeding him and then last night his stomache on his right side looked to me like was about to burst, now this morning it has a puss like wound, a friend of mine said he has a parasite and it's to late to save him is this true? and I have two bottom feeders one pleco and one cory if it is a parisaite should I quarintine the other two? or will they be fine? (I'm fairley new at the fish hobby) I had another tank about 3 years ago and it was a great tank (I miss it) but I moved so they went to my buddy who is the one who told me it was a parasite? any help would be great.

I am not an expert on gouramis, by far, but when buying mine the other day the store employee told me that gouramis are prone to dropsy. Don't know if this is what you have but maybe someone can come along and advise you on what to do, if there is anything you can do.
I found this on a post of mine, telling them I bought some gouramis, do some research on the internet and you might find your answers.

"Keep an eye out for any swelling or lesions on your powder blues (i assume it is these?) they are well known for iridovirus...."

No 3 spots are a entirely different fish altogether, it may be a skin ulcer (could be iridovirus i suppose) as a result of dropsy.
I'd try treating the fish to a hospital tank and an anti-bacterial medication. Preferably one with fungicidal properties, eg. general tonic (which may not be strong enough) or anything containing phenoxyethanol...
Good luck :good:
Anyone with other ideas? Pls...

thanks germ I did some looking up on parasites, and it gave me clues what to look for and I didn't see them (the most comman ones are hard to see but visible to the human eye) and dropsy sounds right cause that's how it all started he was bloated then he was really eating, is there any reconmindations any one has would be most greatly apprecated thanks

As i said above
I'd try treating the fish to a hospital tank and an anti-bacterial medication. Preferably one with fungicidal properties, eg. general tonic (which may not be strong enough) or anything containing phenoxyethanol...
Or you could try an Epsom salt bath....
Good luck.
