I added a siamese male fighter to my 30 ltr biorb just over a week ago. He was very aggressive towards my pearl danio, nipping his fins. I thought that by adding 2 females to the tank, my male fighter would leave the danio alone. well, now he is terrorising the poor females and the danio. the females are hiding away behind plants but have damage to their fins. any suggestions on how to get this bully to calm down? is he just being very territorial?

Hello,

Ok this is the troubel, male fighters would rather live alone as they are solitary fish and are very terratorial of thier space. To him the Danio is invading and if your not carefull in time he will kill it. As for the females in there too, this is again a proplem as they too are a threat to his space and should only really be introduce (1 of) when you are spawning. Again he could end up killing them of they could gang up on him and he will be the one in trouble. I don't want to sound all negative but sadly thats how it goes with the boys, some are perfectly fine in with other fish but this is the exception not the rule.

the best thing to do would be to get him a 3gal plus tank just for him and get yourself a couple more pretty girls to add in with the others.

Hope this helps some

female bettas???
You can't keep females and males together, that fish will end up killing the females.....unfortunately some male fighters aren't compatible for community tanks because they are agressive by nature.
Mine lives communally but my betta is very very calm and never attacks and harms any other fish.
Sounds like your fish needs his own tank!

Thanks for your reply. I've had a male in the past and he was very peaceful. This one is a rogue, beautiful but a rogue! I think a new tank is in order!

yeah it's all down to the individual at the end of the day, certainly looks like you got the rogue indeed...lol!

Hey.. just look at it this way, you get to get a new tank! YAY! heh

Do you only have 1 danio? Maybe think about getting 2 more? They'd prefer to be in a group of 6, but since it's a small tank.. I'd only get 2 more.

lol. another example of how bettas do not have individual personalities

Hrmmm well i would argue the last two points made there but i don't see the point as all betta owners and breeders know this is not true
