Hi there

well i got a male and a female siamese fighter for the girl but now it seems as if the male is just chasing the poor female around in circles around the bowl and shes hiding permanantly in the plants . Now the male flares his gills and the fins aswell and then chase her look im brand new into the siamese fighters so is this some kind of thing the male does to attract tthe female or is he just up for a fight??

Have they been properly conditioned for breeding? If not he may just be extremely agitated and could possibly kill her. Have you read the pinned topics in the betta section? There's tons of info in there about the proper way to introduce and then breed bettas. HTH! :)

Siamese fighters/bettas are agressive fish. They should be kept by themselves for the most part. Males should NEVER be put with other males. Males should never be put with females except durring the brief period they are together to breed. Females can be kept together in larger groups, but even then they can get nasty with each other. Check out the betta section for loads of helpful info on these beautiful fish.

Thx guys

splitting up the 2 then and jumping to betta section thx a mil

No problem! I'm glad you're open to suggestions, to me it is easier to go into breeding knowing as much as possible than dealing with the headaches that can come afterwards if you're unprepared. They really are wonderful little fish but have the darndest personalities! Good luck and when you do have some wee ones, we'd love to see some piccies!

HEHEHHEHEHE of course well the male siamese fighter is the naughty one full of energy and chomps all the food but i devided the 2 now in seperate bowls must say the female even looks happier now and shes eating now aswell so thats good

She may be stressed from all the activity, give her a couple days to settle down then try feeding her again :good:

I read somewere male bettas are quite........ ya know up for it alot. And it would be best to put 2 female bettas with one male so he dont wear one out and when she dont wana do anything he wont get stressed because he has the other one. Its just what i read though.

rillan, that's incorrect. they're more interested in territory first and foremost, getting their groove on only occurs to them after about 2 weeks of conditioning a selected pair.

well im feeding them pellats and those flakes checking which one they like the most but ya only the male is chomping on the pelets and the female not but the flakes she eats now and then  DAM am i going insane here or are these fishys very fussy well the male made bubbles around the tank today :p
