Please help. I have a relitively new tank all is cycled and going well, i had 2 guppies whilst cycling the tank and at the weekend i added 2 more guppies, and 2 female siamese fighters.

The problem i have is the siamese fighters seem to be very interested in killing my guppies, i have just witnessed a siamese fighter savage one of my guppies by dragging it around the tank by the tail (not much of the tail left) !!

I was under the impression that these fish were generaly quite tame as long as 2 males were kept apart.

Does anyone have any urgent advice before anymore of my guppies are killed ?

Put them in a breeder net and then get the fighter a new house of his own.

Is this common as the pet store had 4 of these fighters (female) in a tank with about 20 guppies, that's why i bought them as the pet store stated they rarely harmed other fish ?

I will get a breader net and return these fighters back to the store, although all shops closed now until morning.

That would be a case of overcrowding to even out aggression. The more females you have, the better they'll be (I was under the impression it was a male but I noticed the use of "fighters" so I wasn't sure.) But it works the same with the gups, the more guppies you have, the more random the pecking is.

You could always get a few more and set up a female only tank.

bettas often attack guppies, I think because of their bright colours. You can't keep the male betta in there, they even attack females. Get him a small 2.5 + gallon tank.

female bettas can be just as aggressive as males and the long tails of guppies are an easy target!!
