has anyone got one of these with guppies ?i know there is a chance they will attack the guppies but is it possable to get a less aggresive one that might not?also do they eat snails and there eggs?

thanks

im my experience, its not just the betta that you have to watch out for, when i first started out i had a male betta in with 7 guppys, aswell as someother stuff, they are not important, the thing is that the guppys killed the betta, stripped him completley of his fins. i put the guppys in a different tank on there own so because they were also attacking other fish. a bit later i bought a south american puffer which can be nippy so i thought id put him in with the guppys before i put him in with the other fish. the guppys atacked him, not the other way around.

basically what i am trying to say is DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE GUPPY. They are nasty fish and i will never keep them again.

hope this helps, although obiously it may of just been the personality of the guppys as all fish are different, imo i wouldnt try it.

mine don't eat snails, whether or not other ones do i don'tknow

Hi

You would get basically the same answer on the betta section as you have here :good:

Bettas wont eat your snails, dunno about the eggs though. Its impossible to pick a less aggressive male betta out. A betta that looks calm at the lfs, may turn into a monster when you get it home and it starts to mark its territory.

As Oscars said, Guppys can be pretty nippy, and i have personally seen what damage can be caused to a male betta by guppys.

Its a bit like rolling a dice, you never quite know whats going to happen where a male betta is concerned :good:

thanks for the replies, dont think i'll get the fighter . if anyone knows a good small to medium fish that will eat snail eggs and maybe snails i'd appreciate the advise, the more colourfull or interesting the better,

If your tank is big enough, what about a Yoyo Loach. I had them and mine ate snails. However they should really be kept in a group.

puffers eat snails, although if you put puffers in you severly limit what else you can put in the tank.
