Siamese fighters do much better on their own than with tank mates, especially Tetras they tend to pick on them.

No problem. Just make sure your neons arent teeny weeny, otherwise you might have headless or tailess neons. I breed them as well. I keep six females and two males in a 10g tank and the males keep to themselves and never fight. Good luck.

ok cheers..
If i Buy a siamese fighter is there any fish Thats a Big NO NO to put in with it ?

Before you get your Siamese fighter have a look on the Betta section of this forum they have a list of compatible tank mates which should help.

Hi, I keep my siamese fighter with mollies, tetra's, clown loaches and a couple of rams. The omly problem I had was with my first fighter I put him in with 6 zebra danio's. When I got up the following morning the danio's had completely stripped him of he's fins and the stress killed him. My other fighter is sharing he's home with a couple of swordtails and bronze cat fish and 3 golden apple snails and they all seem fine together.

The first no-nos that come to mind:

another male betta

another fish of any species that yours might conceivably mistake for another male betta: this might include another anabantid (gouramis) or anything with long flowing fins (guppies etc)

any fish with a reputation for fin-nipping: serpae tetras, lemon tetras, tiger barbs, RTBS, CAE etc

anything fast and whizzy that might reduce your betta to a nervous wreck: danios, giant danios etc

Please, tell me those are all spawn siblings. :|

It's a little iffy with both the neons and the mollies, but I've heard of it being done before with no problem. I'd say you can try it, but have a backup plan if someone is getting picked on.

ohmygod. what kind of terrible person are you? even if the neons are teeny weeny they can freaking gang up on the guys and 10 BETTAS IN ONE 10G?! the heck you thinking?!

my thoughts aswell

please don't take any advice from this person, please stick to the people who know what they are doing :good:

Ignore that person, they're trolling big time. Anyway, how big is this tank, and how many of each fish are there? Generally, I'd say it's not a good plan to put a betta in there, but since you can buy a 3g for a few pounds, that doesn't mean you can't still have one :p

Please note that Tropical Fish Breeder has been all over the forum making totally unbelieveable claims and we have no evidence that he has ever possessed any fish at all. So there is no reason to get upset about the life of his bettas; no doubt they have as much reality as his seven 300 gallon tanks and the clown loaches that he breeds with ease. There was something about 200 clown loaches in one tank, too....Just ignore anything he suggests- no doubt his account will shortly be closed by the mods.

I hate people who give lousy advice to new people. That's the kind of thing that make fish dead.

Anyways, male bettas can't be kept with male OR female bettas, anything fast (stressful), anything nippy (obvious reasons), anything much larger or much smaller (predator/prey), or anything colorful enough to be mistaken for another betta.

However, I suggest no tankmates at all. Bettas have needs that differ vastly from other fish, and to meet the needs of both animals, you're compromising somewhere. Bettas like shallower water with a minimal current and minimal aeration. They do not live in social groups, are highly territorial, prefer solitude, and can easily be distressed by other fish. Most other species of tropical fish, on the other hand, prefer deeper water, a strong current, strong aeration, live in social groups, prefer group living, and do not object to other fish. It is noteworthy that some bettas just can't handle a ton of space (most people consider over 10g to be leaning towards stressful) because of their finnage, though obviously a plakat can take more than a halfmoon.

I was considering a few corys in with a betta, I figured they'd probably leave each other alone, but then, I don't run the filter in my betta tank, and I'd need a bigger tank than I have now for a school of corys. Maybe when I get a bigger one, and with some girls. Probably won't do any of that while I have danios though.
