Hello All,

Last night I did my weekly water change after which I let my fish resettle in the tank and when I went back to the tank to switch the light off like i do every night I saw that my female siamese fighting fish had one of my jumbo neon tetras in her mouth. She only released when I went to take the neon out of the tank to place in a tank of its own.

The neon now has a nip in its tail and the fins look all scruffy and im not sure what to do to help her heal. Also what should i do about the siamese fighting fish should i keep her or get her re-homed. I lost a jumbo neon also during the week it just disappeared from the tank and im starting to wonder if it is the siamese attacking tham all or not. She has been in there over a month and never attacked any of them she acted as if she didnt care they were there.

Please help if anyone can I want to save this little one

Many Thanks

i wouldn't keep fighters with tetras although i would say it is because neons can be nippy and may shred the beta's fins but it sounds like you have a rouge beta. id say to remove either the fighter or the neons.

I will see how they are tonight when i get home shortly its just a shame she has never behaved like this before. I was going to purchase more fish yesterday so im glad i didn't now.

Thanks for you advice

How do you water change and what is your tank size and stocking?

I'd get the betta a tank of her own, about 5 gals with heater and filter.

I do a 20% water change every week (using water conditioner) I have a 60L tank and I have 2/3 Jumbo Neons (think the injured one has passed on couldn't see him this morning but my mum is looking), 3 Tetras, 4 Guppies and 1 Female Siamese fighting fish.

I just don't know what to do.

Thanks

thats odd, how a female betta could fit a jumbo tetra in her mouth.
I have seen my female betta go after the other fish, but that is only when they steal her food.
other than that, she is mild mannered
