I have this beautiful male guppy, whom I named Will, who's been living on his own for a while now, with only a few neons for company. Well, yesterday I was finally able to get him a female. I thought he'd be thrilled. I mean my other male, Sparky, usually starts courting new females while they're still floating in the bag.
Not Will, however. One look at her and he decides he wants nothing to do with this big, plain, dull female who's not nearly as beautifull as he is. Any time she approaches him - which she does once in a while- he bolts to the other corner of the tank. Once in his hurry to get away from her he slammed up against the glass so hard he was stunned for a while. I mean, he actually seems frightnened of her.
What gives? I know she's a little bigger than him, but I thought guppies liked big females? I know that with Sparky, the bigger the better. He once tried to court a large Molly female that completely dwarfed him.
Is my boy just a wimp, or does he just need a little more time to get used to her? Has anyone else ever experienced aything like this?
