I purchased an orange male delta today, and put him in my community tank with 4 female bettas (i have already been lynched for putting him in with females) and some platies and mollies. He was instantly very subdued, hiding away. He is much bigger than my other male, but when my other male flared at him through the glass he just shied away.
I have a spare 25L tupperware box that i set up with some ferns and a hiding place for him and its heated, just no filter as of yet but i am getting onto that. I figured he might not like other fish (whereas my other betta loved being in a community tank but when i added the females he got a bit fiesty so hes on his own now) so i have put him on his own.
However he is still subdued, hiding away, not coming to the surface much. Is this just because i have only just got him and it's all been a bit stressful or should i be worried?
Need advice really...

Dont panic. I have had bettas that have settled in immediately, and some that have taken almost a week. Providing he has no white spots or fungus on him, and his water is clean I should just leave him. He may just be stressed out. Sometimes the lfs get them in and sell them same day...grrrr!
Keep us updated. ps dont worry if he doesnt eat either.

I also have had a betta like that,
but maybe since you just bought him. Hes not used to the other fishes yet.

well i just added some pellets, left the room and came back to find them gone, so im hoping he's just shy...hes in good condition...will keep you posted...thanks for the help x

well i looked in this morning to find he is still shying away, and he has a white patch on his head, it's not white and fluffy, looks more like an ulcer, but im not too sure. I will get pics up asap, but dont know if anyone has had this before, its just like a white splodge on his head, but does not look like fungus!

heres a photo of it...im really worried now...
the girl i bought it very quiet too, i think that may be becasue she in in with 3 of my other boystrous girls...hopefully she'll perk up....

You can just see it in the top in his pic
