I might go out to my lfs tonight and grab a few shrimps for my bettas tanks. I have 2 males in a divided 10g and 1 female in a 'fish r fun' tropical tank set ups. Not sure how much water it holds but it is plenty big enough.
How many shrimps should I get to go with each betta??? What do they eat?

I may have to come back with another betta aswell depending on how cute they are lol!

firstly get one for each tank, some bettas will eat shrimps and some will not, if the shrimps are still there in say 3 weeks or so, buy more. ghost shrimps and amano shrimps are the most common. shrimps eat algea, leftovers, usally flakes, but if your feeding betta pellets, i sugggest buying algea wafers or shrimp pellets.they will scavange all though the day and night, finding any foods.dont feed much.in the devided 10g (5 gallons) you could add about 5 shrimps, if your betta dont eat them.
not sure about the females tank, but i would go with 4 or 5 in there too. like i said, try only 1 first to not waste your money or the shrimps life.
other options for the betta tanks are fancy snails, ottos, or african dwarf frogs

I have yet to meet a betta who doesn't like to munch on ghost shrimp, lol. But some people have a lot of success keeping them together. So give it a shot, if they get eaten... well... at least they weren't expensive, lol.

No shrimp for me :( They didnt have ghost or amano shrimp - cant remember what they were called that were there but it was about £4 for each shrimp and I wasnt willing to spend that much on a shrimp which could of just ended up being a delicious snack! So Im going to keep a look out when Im out and about and see if I can get any for cheaper somewhere else.

They did have a few nice betta there! They had a dark blue with black head, blue with red running through him. A few white/cream ones. There was one white/cream one that looked like he had crowntail in him somewhere back, he had sort of a 'ribbed' effect to the end of his tails/fins. I didnt see any that were in bad condition so I was happy with that!
However none really stood out to me and said buy me so they are all still at the shop lol!
There was one at a store 2 weeks ago now, a little white one with red dots through his tail. He is stuck in my head but I have no way of getting back to that store as I cant drive  Im sure he has a new home now anyway, he was just so cute!

will female Bettas eat Amano shrimp?

Nick

They may or may not eat the shrimp. If you're going for an amano to go in the tank try to get a slightly larger one so it has a better chance. Shrimp are not completely defenseless, amano's won't hurt your fish but they will stand up for themselves. They are also expert hiders, as long as there is plenty of cover and plants for them to hide in. I've seen amanos snatch food from the mouths of the fish in my tank (4 inch pearl gourami) the shrimp are 1-2 inches long now. If you don't have lots of plants in the tank (and I mean lots) then you'll need to make sure you provide food for the shrimp too.

I have tried putting Ghost Shrimp with three different bettas and none of my bettas ever bit at or ate the Shrimp. My bettas would chase them around and blow up at them, but that was about it. I always enjoyed keeping a Shrimp in there just to give my betta something to do...plus it's a lot of fun to watch. The Shrimp just goes crazy jumping all over the place.
