Hi

Bought some shrimps for the planted tank today but forgot about the fact theyre intolerant to copper. I will be dosing chelated trace with my EI routine. Has anyone kept shrimps on EI and did they suffer?

Thanks

If it has copper in it then yes they will die most likely.

I use chelated trace elements in my tank every day, I have 3 different types of shrimp and they are all fine.

I would guess that because I dose daily the copper level never gets a chance to reach a high enough level to harm any of my shrimp.

As long as you dose daily and keep your water change routine up you and your shrimp will be fine.

Should be fine so long as you stick to the routine like livewire said.

Crystal reds & Amano's (Caridina sp) are safe to about 0.072ppm, Red Cherry's (Neocaridina denticulata) to about 0.370ppm

Far higher than what you'll find in most aquarium plant foods. Remember that it's an essential element also. So just as much for shrimp as it is for plants etc.....

The advice generally refers to copper based medications. Copper sulphate was widely used and the dose was enough to turn the whole tank a good dark blue. Stained the silicone well and often left enough copper lying around to poison the tank for shrimp for a long, long time. I've still got a couple of tanks with blue silicone staining that I use for fry grow out tanks.
