Hi , can anyone tell me if Tetra PlantaMin is o/k to use in a tank that contains shrimps. The reason for my query is that I recently dosed Plantamin into my tank , to the specified amount. A few days later I found one of my large Banana shrimps dead. Could the fertilizer have caused it or was it a coincidence. Thanks, greenbeemer

Not sure but when I want to know about what's likely to happen with adding stuff to a shrimp tank - I write an email to the manufacturers and ask them and they are usually very good at getting back in touch.
It would be helpful in the meantime to know what your water parameters are like - tank size, temp TDS, GH, KH and the usual ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH - the actual numbers rather than they are ok as you are probably aware that shrimp are more sensitive to their environment than a lot of fish.

Hi there. my tank holds approx 120 litres and is a community tank which also houses amano and 4 banana shrimp (now 3) . temp is 25c , ph 6.6 , amonia 0.25 , nitrate 40 ppm , nitrite 0 ppm. this happened 2 days ago ,so thinking it only affected the 1 shrimp. I was doing a major maintenence previously so maybe shrimp was stressed as no other losses. Good idea to contact Tetra and I may do that. Thanks for your help. greenbeemer

You might want to think about why you have ammonia present - shrimp are more sensitive to it than fish - altho API can often look like 0.25 ppm when actually negative. Also nitrate of 40 ppm is quite high - aim for under 20 and under 10 ppm is preferable. You are right about not over-reacting to one shrimp death however there may be more if you don't get that nitrate down soon.

o/k , thanks for advice. that will be my next priority to reduce nitrate. thanks again, greenbeemer
