In my betta tank, something is going wrong. I found a dead betta and a dead shrimp and I found another shrimp that is white (Read this usually means about to die). Anyways, tested the water. So far, Ive only got to ammonia, but using the API Freshwater mater test kit ammonia test, the liquid didn't show any ammonia. My best guess is I have some illness that will wipe me entire tank as I see no symptoms to lead me towards and answer other than death.

Anyways, if I don't find a solution, I want to completely clean the tank out and start over. Making it a shrimp only tank. One where they can have lots of babies, but they will survive and I can put them in the other tank as food. Just asking about shrimp tank specifics. First, what substrate is best for shrimp? Gravel or sand? And waht stocking. Im thinking 20 Ghost shrimp and 15 cherries.

I dont think shrimp care tbh.

I believe that shrimp stop breeding when they become uncomfortable in their surroundings, ie, when there is too many.

Don't take my word as final, I'm sure someone else more knowledgeable will be along soon.

Sounds good. Hope your tank doesn't crash. Why don't you save the shrimp you have and go ahead and clean it out to start over? Sand or gravel is ok...its neat to watch them frolic in the sand though. When syphoning I would use those grill attatchment so you don't pick any up. Good luck thouhg..I will soon be following your idea. Idk how I'm gona afford all those cherrys though!
