I got these at my lfs. they were selling them as "algae shrimp" for £1.95 so i grabbed 6. Their certainly not the normal "algae shrimp" they sell - they are a gorgeous dark blue/navy with a bright white stripe.

algae shrimps (correct me if im wrong) are usually ammano shrimp and these have the body shape of an ammano but ive never seen them in this colour

I am not a shrimp guy, but could it be a female Malaya shrimp?

They look a little like my Bamboo Shrimp. Cant quite see from the pic, but do they have fans on their front legs?

Looks like a Cardina typus but I am not sure they are traded throughout the rest of the world.

Thier very pretty shrimp. I'd say their about as big as a sakura cherry shrimp. They are a really intense dark blue (the pic dont really do it justice), the guy at the lfs was curious too as it was quite obvious they werent amanos. I didnt say anything incase he investigated and bumped up the price! Only risk is of them breeding with my cherries - i don't breed for profit so i'm not too fussed :) we'll just have to wait and see!

I am pretty sure they are a type of malayan shrimp...

However their so blue, can you get blue malayan shrimp?

If its a Malayan shrimp then no fear of it cross breeding with your cherrys. Cherry shrimp are neocaridina and the Malayan shrimp is Caridina. The Malayan shrimp can come in a range of colours as well :good: .
Australian and many of our Northern neighbors share certain inverts (or at least common ancesters) which would be why it looks so much like the Australian Caridina typus.

If you have a pair of Malayan shrimp you can breed them in your tank, they have larval young (rather than shrimplets) but the young dont require brackish water like most larval species of shrimp.

Oh cool! yes i'm pretty sure thats what they are - their white pattern matches the pictures perfectly. Their now coming out from hiding which is nice! (even though their hard to see on my black gravel!!) My cherries breed like crazy so i'm hoping for babies from these!
