Shrimp Id? Need To Know Quickly

I have three shrimp in my tank- they came with it- and i thought they where all ghost shrimp, however ghost shrimp are not suposed to attack fish and this one just tried to eat my bettas fins (and the betta is still alive just resting at the bottom)

The shrimp is also not clear- it has more of a white colouration. It's also slightly smaller- on about 3cm rarther than 5cm. So any ideas if it is a ghost shrimp and what i should do with it?

it looks like a ghost shrimp, shrimp have an ability to almost smell death and will take any opportunity to eat anything that isn't to well. The shrimp won't be attacking, i'd keep an eye on te fish it's trying to get.

okay then- it just looks so differant to the other 2 shrimp in there
I will keep an eye on him, he seems okay (the fish)

if you mean little pinsers then yes- thats what he used to grab the betta's fins
I'm afraid i don't really know what acounts for 'long' with shrimp arms ;p

I threw him in my other tank with the barbs now so there's no more slow fish with long fins he can get Though he does seem to have vanished...

If you look up shrimp pics from Macrobrachium, you'll know what was meant by long arms. Some of these shrimp are ok in a community tank but others will grab fish if they can and can grow quite large.

Yes, they are quite long but there's nothing too them, unlike the pictures, they just look like lines. I supose i got dumped with the ones that'll grab fish then

If your betta was on the bottom of the tank and not moving, are you sure the shrimp wasn't simply exploring rather than attacking? The betta could've easily been food if it wasn't moving, they are scavengers after all. It doesn't look like the type of shrimp to attack, they tend to have much larger/longer pincers.

that may be what happened but i figured it was attacking because it hung on as the betta swam up- if it was just exploring wouldn't it have let go?

Well not necessarily, they do tend to cling to things. Personally I think it was scavenging rather than attacking to kill. But you've separated them now anyway, so problem solved.

Agreed. My Amano shrimp have taken a ride on my corydoras and gourami, much to their dismay lol.
